19 bright chess payers of GIIS India met on the checkered ground to combat in the wonderful game of chess. The location of this brain game was none other than the GIIS Chinchwad campus and students from GIIS campuses of Bangalore, Surat, Noida and Indore boarded the train to meet their co-players of GIIS Chinchwad.
They arrived at GIIS Chinchwad on Friday, January10, and received a warm welcome from Ms. Amrita Vohra aka Principal Ma@aps@am and Ms. Vaishali Borde, who conceptualized and executed the competition. Various activities like the ice-breaker games, music and talent show and lots of fun around the brightly lit bonfire helped the students and their coaches get familiarized with each other. A scrumptious dinner made their evening a memorable one and charged them up for the next day@aps@s championship.
The Inter-GIIS Chess Championship was held on 11th January in the Swiss League Format consisting of 5 rounds. Each player had 15 minutes on his clock to make his move. The students played swiftly, thought, calculated and preempted the opponent@aps@s next move. At the end of the game, GIIS Chinchwad won the championship with Ashutosh Bakre securing First place, Ashika Bakre achieving Second position and Manas Shah standing at third place. GIIS Indore was the First Runner-up and GIIS Noida became the Second Runner-up. GIIS Surat and GIIS Bangalore settled for participation certificate.
The felicitation commenced by garlanding the bust of Mahatma Gandhi by the Chief Guest. Mr. Abhijeet Kunte, India@aps@s 4th Chess Grandmaster, who presided over the event. GIIS Chinchwad was indeed privileged to welcome such a legendary and renowned personality. The dramatic interpretation of the game of chess was a jaw-dropping performance. A drill in various sports skills was presented by the passionate students of GIIS Chinchwad which was followed by a Dance Yoga. |
The Championship was beautifully woven together with the thread of accomplishments and achievements. The prize distribution ceremony was the most awaited segment of the day. The participants and the winners were felicitated by the Chief Guest Mr. Abhijeet Kunte. It was indeed a proud moment for all the young, dynamic, and smart achievers.
A visit to the Science Park and the film @aps@I AM KALAM@aps@ was showcased to the players, adding on to the excitement of the itinerary. The Inter-GIIS Chess Championship was a first time experience for the young guests as well as the host school and was an enriching and enthralling one.
