Gandhi Jayanti Celebration

Gandhi Jayanti Celebration

Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti is observed every year as a national holiday to venerate the birth of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. His Non-Violence or Satyagraha continues to influence political leaders and movements till date. The celebration and essence of Gandhi Jayanti is not restricted within India and also observed by the United Nations as the International Day of Non-Violence that aims to disseminate his philosophy, principles and belief in Non-Violence through proper education and public awareness.

Keeping the above essence of the day in mind, we at GIIS Bangalore commemorated the birth of Mahatma Gandhi on 1st Oct’15, by opening the day with a special assembly stressing the significance of the day. The programme started by honouring our Bapuji with flowers and Deepaanjali followed by the Principal’s message on the principles of Mahatma Gandhiji and he stressed on imbibing those principles into our personal life.

On this auspicious occasion, an inspirational speech was given by students of grade IIC. It was followed by a wonderful power point presentation entitled “Amazing facts About Mahatma Gandhi.” The students sang Gandhiji’s favourite bhajans - Vaishnav Jan to tene Kahiya’ and ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’. The melodious rendition had the audience spell bound. The students read out Gandhi’s quotes from the placards made by them. The highlight of the assembly was a mesmerizing skit glorifying Gandhiji and how he heralded a new era for our country and it ended with the Gandhiji’s last words “HEY RAM” resonating in the air.

Going a step forward in helping the children understand all about the freedom struggle and the role of Mahatama Gandhi in helping us win our independence non-violently, the children were shown the video on Gandhi about - The Dandi March, The Swadeshi Movement, wearing homespun cotton clothes and how he stressed on leading a simple but noble life.

Thus the children of GIIS Bangalore were given a deep insight into the life and times of Mahatma Gandhi and encouraged to think about the sacrifice of our freedom fighters, analyze the importance and understand the value of freedom, through the day’s activities.

The assembly came to an end with National anthem.

“The whole world is a large family and it is this feeling that we wish to inculcate at GIIS. The students, parents and teachers will work together and create a Familistic society, which will be for the best interest of the society and country at large”
