It is said that books are the best companion of humans irrespective of the age and also the time. We are gifted with amazing authors in the world who express the stories in life through their power of expression. GIIS Bangalore believes that the habit of reading books apart from the academic lessons does help develop the creative imagination and vocabulary of the students.
“It is what you read when you don't have to, that determines what you will be, when you can't help it.”
Right from the inception of the school, the beautiful library facilitated the reading needs of the Pre-Primary and the Primary students through storytelling and many reading activities. As a step further, a new special library in the school premises caters to higher reading with age-appropriate books exclusively for the senior students.
New Library Inauguration Ceremony:
The inauguration function was commemorated by Mr. J Shivan Nair (Trustee, One Universe Education which runs and oversees the working off GIIS Bangalore campus) along with Mr. Ganesh Sharma (Principal, GIIS Bangalore), all the Coordinators of GIIS Bangalore, the Library Teachers and member students of the Reading Club. Mr. Nair said, 'Reading is an excellent habit and it needs to be inculcated from a very young age. I am happy to see the enthusiasm and spirit of inquisition in these students and I wish them a happy reading time in the new state-of-the-art library.'
Nurturing the Art of Diverse Reading:
“Read the best books first, or you may not have a chance to read them at all.”
The 'Reading Club' will form an integral part of the functioning of this library. This will have an important role in the lives of all the students studying in GIIS. The members of the club will ensure that the habit of reading is instilled in all the GIISians. The Reading Club will be instrumental in training the students of the lower classes, the correct way of reading and also highlighting the benefits of reading. First of all this will help increase the vocabulary of the students and this helps them speak fluently in English language. Secondly, there will be a lot of activities such as story writing, ideation and narration organized for the students of various classes. Thirdly, there will be guest authors visiting the school to conduct workshops for students and teach the art of writing a novel or a short story depending on individual interests and styles. The students also get to know about the various authors and their style of writing. Finally, the vast ocean of books that comprise of fiction, non-fiction, classics, literature, sports and current affairs magazines for the students of Middle and Senior School will encourage the students to read more.
GIIS Bangalore is happy to see that with the growth of the school, there are two libraries now to nurture the habit of reading and learning.
