Constitution Day Assembly highlighted the impact of GST rates on common man

EC Teachers Day Sept 2

The students of GIIS conducted a Special assembly on the occasion of Constitution Day. They presented a Model Parliament (also referred to as a Mock Parliament), which is a simulation of the parliamentary proceedings of a legislature or other deliberative assembly. The Constitution of India provides for a Parliamentary form of government which is federal in structure with certain unitary features.

To begin the assembly the students explained about the importance of Constitution Day and how it commemorated into assembly sessions. Then they took a pledge, urging the students to promise to help motherland whenever required and was followed by the recitation of Preamble of the Constitution.  The Mock parliament session started with a question hour. Question Hour is the first hour of a sitting session of India's Lok Sabha devoted to questions that Members of Parliament raise about any aspect of administrative activity. The concerned Minister was obliged to answer to the Parliament, either orally or in writing, depending on the type of question raised. It is said that questions are one of the ways by which the parliament can hold the executive accountable. This session continued with debate and the event was organized to check the debating skills of students as well as their knowledge of the current issues facing the country. The topic was “GST”. Different questions were asked by the opposition party pertaining to the difference between UPA’s GST and NDA’s GST, the taxes GST replaces and so on.  In the debate, the opposition party was arguing against the current GST rate slabs and the audience also got a chance to participate by expressing their own views about the topic. Adjourned sine die motion was passed by the speaker when to adjourn the session for an indefinite period. This was a very good learning session for the students of GIIS Bangalore, to understand the functioning of a parliament session and how major decisions are made based on discussions and debates.
