Celebrating everything grand about Grandparents

When God created Grandparents, the world was truly blessed,
With all the special joys that make a family happiest.
For grandparents know how to do the little things that warm our heart.
They touch our lives with love and care right from the very start.
They show that they believe in us and all we’re dreaming of,
When God created grandparents, he blessed our lives with love.

Grandparents are the footsteps of the future generation. Grandparents are a family@aps@s greatest treasure, the founders of a loving legacy, the greatest storytellers, and the keepers of traditions that linger on in cherished memory. Grandparents Day at GIIS Whitefield is an annual programme to which everyone looks forward to and this year too, it was a big hit!

The little ones of Pre-primary love grandpa and grandma

The programme for the grandparents of Pre-primary kids commenced at 9:30 A.M. The tiny tots sprinkled rose water on their dear grandparents and also gifted each one with a rose. The assembly started with a prayer by little Mayur, which was followed by a song “Hum Ko Mann Ki Sakti Dena” by KG2 kids. Principal, Mr. Ganesh Sharma welcomed the coveted audience and spoke on the importance and role of grandparents in today’s society. A special video message by the little ones for their grandparents was a delightful treat that everyone simply loved. Ms. Preetha D’Mello, Pre-Primary Coordinator spoke on the occasion and thanked the grandparents for their presence and support.

The grandparents, along with their grandchildren, went to their classrooms and waited in anticipation for the plethora of fun activities that were about to begin. It was an opportunity to participate with their grandchildren and in the process create sweet memories for the little ones that they will cherish throughout their lives. Nursery section had planned a ‘Blindfold Game’ - one by one every child was blindfolded and he or she had to identify his or her grandparent. The students had also made greeting cards. For KG1, the grandparent was blindfolded and each one had to guess his or her grandchild. KG2 played a game of musical chairs.

“Life is not measured by the breaths that we take, but by the moments that take our breath away”. The day came to an end and each and every grandparent congratulated the teachers as they carried beautiful memories, smiles and laughter with them.

Primary classes recognize the role of grandparents in their lives

It is rightly said, “What children need most are the essentials that grandparents provide in abundance. They give unconditional love, kindness, patience, humour, comfort, lessons in life and most importantly - cookies.”

Grandparents Day for the Primary classes commenced at 11:00 A.M. The grandparents were ushered to the audio-visual room by Ms. Richa. The program started by invoking God’s blessings followed by an introduction to the program by Ms. Amanpreet. Principal, Mr. Ganesh Sharma welcomed the grandparents and this was followed by a welcome song sung by the students of classes IV to VIII who were trained by Ms. Sangeeta. Vashu of classs VII and Navya of class II recited two beautiful poems that touched the core of the audience.

After the welcome ceremony, the grandparents were asked to come on stage and share some special memories or time that they had shared with their grandchildren. Many grandparents actively volunteered to share experiences while some even showcased their talent by singing.

Two games were played with the audience. One was ‘Hide and Seek’; the grandparent-grandchild duo had to go around the room searching for hidden coloured balls and pocket sized bean bags. The other was called ‘Identifying the Object’; a total number of eight items were displayed on stage and the grandchild was blindfolded and by way of direction from the grandparent, the child had to identify a certain object. Both games were highly appreciated as there were a lot of volunteers who eagerly participated in them.

As all good things come to an end, in the same way, the program had to come to an end. Ms. Aracha Sinha, Primary Coordinator, gave the vote of thanks and this was followed by gifting each grandparent with a sapling. Mr. Glany caught some spectacular candid moments on his camera. On the completion of the program, the grandparents along with their grandchildren went to the respective classrooms where some interesting activities were lined up for them. It was a gratifying moment for GIIS Whitefield as every single grandparent went back happy and contented and all the students were truly blessed.
