Annual Sports Meet 2015

GIIS Whitefield, Bangalore celebrated its third Annual Sports Meet with enthusiasm and gaiety. Students of Primary classes were all set to make their mark in the arena of sports while their parents waited eagerly for the Annual Sports Meet to kick-start.

The occasion was graced by Mr. Raghu Prasad- an international Hockey Umpire, Olympics player and a member of the Karnataka Hockey Association, in the capacity of Chief Guest and Mr. Ram Prakash - Infrastructure Partner GIIS Whitefield, Bangalore as the Guest of Honour. Mr. Ganesh Sharma, Principal GIIS Whitefield, Bangalore greeted the guests with a sapling as a token of appreciation for their presence.

The day began with the Welcome March by students of the four houses namely Chrysanthemum, Hibiscus, Orchid and Sunflower led by their respective House Captains. They held their flags with pride and were followed by the school Band Troupe who marched in style playing the drums and pipes in harmony. The Chief Guest declared the Sports Meet open and released the mascot.

The much awaited programme began with races and drills. The first was a 50 Metres Sprint Race by boys and girls of Classes I and II. The next was the ‘Bean Bag balancing’ race for Classes I and II. This was followed by a beautifully coordinated ‘Fan Drill’ by Classes V, VII and VII. Next was ‘Run and Pick’ in two categories followed by a 100 Metres Sprint Race by boys and girls of Classes III,IV,V and VI. ‘Standing Broad Jump’ was followed by ‘Medicine Ball Push’ played in two categories by all students. Class II mesmerised the parents with a colourful Ribbon Dance. ‘Shotput Throw’, ‘Long Jump’ were the most awaited competitions and the students played with full zest. Marital Arts was the highpoint of the performances as the students showed off their skills. Yoga and aerobics by Classes III and IV and Pompom Display by Class I was much appreciated by the audience. Medal distribution by the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour added to the much awaited euphoria.

The Parents’ round comprised of the game of ‘Passing the Ball’. They formed a big circle and passed the ball to one another and stopped at the pause of music. The parent who was caught holding the ball was disqualified. Parents let their inner-child out as they jumped in glee. Three parents won the Parents’ Round.

The event ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Aarcha Sinha- Primary Coordinator. She thanked the guests, Prinicipal, academic and non-acadenic staff and housekeeping staff for their support. She specially thanked the Rainbow Children’s Hospital for providing with a Doctor and ambulance for the event. The event was well appreciated by parents who not only enjoyed the sunny winter morning on the sports ground but also feasted on the yummy food at the stalls.

The winners were presented medals and a certificates of participation by the guests. Chrysanthemum House won the sports cup. “Winners are those who win, and the winners also those who lose, but the game continues! A true sportsman should be able to face setbacks and stand up again. It is the attitude that makes a winner”. Said Mr. Ganesh Sharma- Principal GIIS Whitefield, Bangalore as he addressed the students. The Annual Sports Meet was the culmination of the yearlong sports activity that goes on in the school and the students develop in body, soul and mind.
