Clean India, Green India

Sky is the ultimate art gallery just above us – Ralph Emerson

The 7th and 8th Grade students of Global Indian International School (GIIS) Bangalore received a New Year surprise. The imagination of space became a blessed reality when they got a chance to visit the headquarters of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) in Bangalore. This is one of the prestigious space agency of the Government of Republic India. This was an interesting and thrilling educational trip as the students explored the world of rockets and satellites with a lot of inquisitive questions in mind.

The ambience in and around was very much different and this being a high security area, the level of rules and regulations were strictly to be followed. The place was speck and clean with great attention to maintaining silence everywhere. The students were amazed to see the ambience and also got to get a sneak-peek into the 'Clean Room' from a window high above. The Clean Room as they were told was meant to assemble and clean the parts of the satellites by experienced and specialised people. The GIISians were told that not everyone in ISRO could enter this room. Only the trained experts for the Clean Room could enter and had to pass the security check each time they entered in. The students were told about the various space crafts that was launched by India and they were shown a video clip on the making and launching of satellites.

There was an exhibition where the different models of the satellites were displayed. There were mechanical parts of satellites and even maps of places like Rome, China, India an Dubai that were taken from these satellites. The students got a chance to see and test out a machine which took their weight on Earth and also calculated their weight on other planets including the moon.

It was an inspiring trip for the science enthusiast and a dream come true for those who have been inquisitive to know more about ISRO and their launches. ISRO has lit a fire of curiosity in the young minds to know more about science and space technology.
