In an effort to minimize the environmental awareness and to foster sustainable living, students of GIIS Balestier, in tie up with Tetra Pak Singapore and National Environment Agency, were part of the Tetra Pak Little Green Dots (LGD) Programme 2017.
The students were advocates for UBC (Used Beverage Carton) recycling outreach talk. They visited 14 local kindergartens and explained the importance of Tetra Pak recycle, as well as what constituted the different layers of the tetra pak, which is made of 74% paper, 22 % polyethylene and 4% aluminum.
Students demonstrated how safely and effectively send tetra paks for recycle by disposing them in the bin provided for it after washing the paks. They also showed the things that can be made out of Tetra Pak, fostering the culture of upcycling. They were also advocates of Upcycling Tetra Paks to useful products thus emphasizing on waste reduction and improving the efficiency of resource use. We are proud that GIIS BL students collected and recycled over 5,000 Tetra Pak at campus. All the student advocates received appreciation certificates by Tetra Pak Singapore on November 14, 2017 for their efforts & contributions towards recycling & upcycling.
