The Parent Support Group (PSG) of GIIS, Balestier organised a grand and exciting International Friendship Fiesta on August 4, 2017. The main objective of this event was to foster a bond of friendship between parents, children and school and PSG made it happen by putting up a great show.

Inspired by the quotes of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, ‘One best book is equal to hundred good friends but one good friend is equal to a library’, the PSG members arranged a small fiesta to celebrated friendship between parents, kids, and a network of well-known pals.

A short cultural program was presented in which parents and children were invited to participate. The show began with a prayer song by all the PSG members after which, the PSG Coordinator, Ms Akanksha Arora, addressed the gathering with a welcome note. The Vice Principal, Ms. Savinder Kaur Rooprai was invited to the stage to address the children and parents. A friendship band was tied to her as symbol of friendship by Ms Akanksha. The children couldn’t wait for the show to begin as delight was written all over their faces to see their parents perform.

The yoga ballet on Surya Namaskaar was presented by PSG members. Kashmira Scinde of 5C grade entertained everyone with her cute dance moves, while Brihadeesh Balaji of 2A presented Thirkural recitation. A short speech on friendship was narrated by Ritesh Kumar of 2E. Ms. Ambili, mother of Eshana 5C mesmerised the whole crowd with her melodious song performance, while Ms. Shikha and Ms. Urvashi sang a devotional song (bhajan) together. The program ended with a fabric dance performance by PSG members.

There was so much excitement in the air. After the cultural show, the PSG had also put up various stalls such as game stalls, jewellery stalls and food stalls. They also sold handmade friendship bands, rakhis, greeting cards and bookmarks. They managed to collect old books and sell them at a used book sale stall.

Apart from this, a friendship wall, called the ‘Great Wall of Friendship’ was displayed outside the reception area, where children wrote and pasted notes on friendship for their friends.
