GIIS Balestier Students Execute Some Challenging Moves in Nanyang Racial Harmony Team Chess Challenge 2017

GIIS Balestier team, named ‘Destroyers’ won the third place in under 12 category and overall 8th place out of 28 teams that participated from different schools at the Nanyang Racial Harmony Team Chess Challenge held on Sunday, July 23, 2017. The competition was organized by Singapore Chess Federation.

The champions in team who won laurels for themselves and the school are:

Aditi Dongre – 4B

Aditya Dongre – 6A

Rishicharan Nagesh – 6B

Sainavaneet Mukund – 6B

Each of the winners was given proper training and coaching on regular basis. Aditya has participated and ranked fairly well in major chess championships held in Singapore. He had achieved the 12th rank in National school individual championship out of 300 participating students. Aditi Dongre has participated in multiple tournaments in the school and national levels. Sainavaneet has been practicing at home on chess.com. Rishicharan has played and practiced at community clubs and social chess meets. All of the winners have the support of their PE teacher Mr Manoj from school.

The chess competition is tailored for beginner and advanced level learners to equip them with strategic and psychological skills needed for high level chess contest. It is said to highlight the importance of traits and character of a good chess competitor. 

GIIS Balestier is truly proud of the little chess champions!!
