Fostering a love for the outdoors

Fostering a love for the outdoors

A bus loaded with eighty students from Classes 4 and 5 made a dash for the outdoors through a camp organized by the school in collaboration with camp operators High Achievers at Sarimbun Scout Camp, Jurong. The camp was peppered with an eclectic fusion of all kinds of outdoor activities to give a taste of outdoor life. Essential skills like tent-making and crafting new and interesting stuff with limited resources were imparted during the camp. Just like aerobic dances perked up the campers early morning , campfires at night brought alive dances from different cultures and interesting games to test team work and leadership like balancing acts was a huge hit with the children. Apart from all the fun, children got a taste of basic domestic chores like washing dishes, serving food and the cleaning after. The camp provided a good platform to allow students to appreciate their environment and natural surroundings and come out of their comfort zones to become independent individuals. One of the campers, Sruthi Venkatesh said, "It was an awesome experience. I enjoyed the campfires the most. I want to go for it all over again." An experience to cherish indeed!
