Diwali Mela works its magic at GIIS Balestier Campus

Diwali Mela 2012

The joyous mood was infectious, thus capturing the festive spirit of the diwali mela held at GIIS Balestier Campus on October 31, 2012. Colourful banners and eye-popping stalls adorned the school. The family Dance-off competition was a perfect start to the days kaleidoscope of events. Parents burnt the stage swinging to groovy tunes with their children. The tambola competition brought cheers and laughter from participants. Children and parents worked out their creative juices in drawing mind blowing rangolis and designing wind chimes and torans to best out one another. Can there be a mela without games and food stalls? With attractive prizes dangled as carrots, there was no shortage of players at the exciting games stalls. Children had a go at the bouncy ride on the The Bouncy Castle. Traditional garb and jewellery stores, Mehendi stalls, authentic handmade handicrafts and a life insurance kiosk were great crowd pullers. Fresh potted plants- grown under the care and attention of teachers and students in the school nursery- were sold in large numbers. The food stalls had its share of patrons. Children and parents thronged them to indulge in candy floss, popcorn and sumptuous Indian and Chinese cuisine and chaat items. Every face was aglow with happiness as the mela wound up in the evening. The day might be over but the festive spirit lives on.
