Kindergarten students from GIIS Balestier cheered up everyone with their presentation about creating awareness that highlighted healthy eating habits and caring for the environment.

Healthy Eating

The healthy food we eat can help us to keep our mind and body in unison. The healthy lifestyle should be learned and implemented from the very young age because it will help them grow as a healthy individual.

Students emphasized on the importance of healthy food. They spoke about healthy food and healthy drinks. The rainbow colours in the food plate enlightened them the required daily nutrients. Apart from healthy eating, children also stressed on being active (swimming, running, playing) to keep their body fit and yoga and breathing exercise to keep a sound mind.

Caring for the Environment

Kindergarten children are active, inquisitive and this is the best time to build relationship with nature. They are beginning to understand the value of saving the natural resources like water, electricity etc. and also learn on how our day-to-day actions affect the environment. “Green Goblins” students of “K2 B” walked the talk by presenting their Class QC, which was to create awareness on caring for the environment.

Students emphasized on the importance of 5 R are which is to refuse, reduce, reuse by repairing, repurpose and recycle. They also shared how the waste contributes to the pollution of our oceans and lakes, which indeed increases the greenhouse gas effect that causes global warming as well. The essence of the presentation was to create awareness of our actions, which will have adverse effect on the environment, and the importance of protecting the environment for the future generation.

Teaching students about the environment is important, because the lessons that they learn about taking care of the earth at this young age will impact their attitude towards environmental issues later on.
