“Reach high for the stars. Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal.”Pamela Starr
Yes, it surely was a dream come true along with tonnes of responsibilities when Global Indian International School (GIIS) Ahmedabad had been entrusted with the privilege to host The First GIIS LEAPS event. LEAPS aimed at bringing together the best young minds of all our campuses together to inculcate critical leadership skills and provide a common platform to all our students.
This edition of LEAPS was a unique initiative of GIIS, where students gathered from all the campuses to collaborate, participate, interact and compete with each other and concurrently hone their talents, enhance their personalities and become confident individuals. LEAPS 2018 curated events that created a perfect blend of our cultural values and the 21st century pedagogy.
Inculcating the values of our 9 Gems philosophy, LEAPS came out with variety of competitions that resonates with our idea of creating budding Global Citizens of the world.
LEAPS became a platform for competitions like GIIS IDOL and GIIS Jhankaar that brought back to life the forgotten old Tribal songs. Students enthralled the audiences with their melodious performance taking them on a journey to lost lands of Gujarat, Bengal, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
GIIS LEAPS also introduced events that were designed to instil the values of the ever changing technology of the world and understanding of the values of eminent movement like Make in India, Design in India and Skill in India. Students of middle and secondary schools presented research papers for Ed Talk competition that focussed on topics such as the changing technologies of the world and its impact on mankind in the 21st century. Our eminent judge Dr. Indira Nityanandam commented on the efforts of the students,"If such young children are thinking and discussing about the future; people need not worry for humanity will then always survive.”
Start-Up was another uniquely interesting competition which was designed to bring out the entrepreneurial qualities of the students. Students from each campus received 3 hours to strategically design a business model that not only supported the Indian industry but also created employment options for farmers, tribal people etc. The students presented well-crafted ideas about their understanding regarding manifold aspects such as crowd funding, role of stake holders, crisis management, marketing strategies customer relationship handling, use of traditional and e-commerce portal etc.
Junkyard event took the competition a notch up when students of the STEM lab presented their robotic models. The budding inventors prepared battery operated and remote controlled moving robots using scrap material. The Judges and teachers were thrilled and complemented the students’ to even know the most intricate details of the system.
The competition was open for all age groups ranging from Kindergarten to Grade 11. Around 550 students participated from all the campuses of India and Abroad.
The results of the multi-dimensional activities that were divided into pre-judged and on-the-spot, were as follows:
