Eid and Ratha Yatra Celebration at GIIS Ahmedabad

Eid and Ratha Yatra Celebration

“India is not confined to one religion but it is the country inhabited by the people belonging to different religions.” Mahatma Gandhi

The city of Ahmedabad was drowned in festivities on 18th July as it witnessed the 138th Rathyatra of Lord Jagannath, which coincided with the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr. GIIS Ahmedabad celebrated Eid and paid tribute to Lord Jaganath in an attempt to enlighten the students about the spirit of festival, symbolizing the unity of an international community. In our multicultural society we need to instill and enforce the universal values of brotherhood, tolerance, peace, compassion, and solidarity in our children.

A special assembly was organised to mark the festival of happiness and brotherhood. The students expressed the spirit of Ramzaan by enacting the famous play “Idgah” which is woven round the festival of prayers and family feasts. This was followed by a presentation on Rathayatra and facts on Lord Jagannath.

Mr. Caesar D’silva, Principal GIIS Ahmedabad in greeting students on the occasion accentuated on the fact that most religions perpetuate similar tenets and wished happiness and prosperity to all. Everyone enjoyed being a part of the day’s celebration.

Under the guidance of the Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Universal Values, all GIIS campuses try to imbibe universal values and as a part of the curriculum all festivals are celebrated to inculcate in the students religious tolerance, which is an important aspect of global sensitivities that are a must for each and every individual.
