“Leaders are not born but are made by their experiences in life”. To inculcate the leadership qualities in students and to give them a feel of functioning of the administrative body, the First Student Council was formed at Global Indian international School, Abu Dhabi and the investiture ceremony was held on 11th May 2016 in the state-of-the-art Multi-Purpose Hall.

Students from Grades 3 to 8, joined the ceremony. Parents of selected council members were also invited to enjoy the pride of their ward’s achievement.

Chief Guest Mr. Kamal Gupta, COO of Global Schools Foundation, Mr. Amol Vaidya, Director Operations, were invited to be part of the event. Students of Grade 6 presented bouquet to the guests and welcomed them. Mr. Ramesh Mudgal, Principal GIIS Abu Dhabi and other senior leaders of the school management were also present on the occasion.

The programme began with the recitation of Quran followed by UAE and Indian National Anthem. Badges were given to the selected student leaders by Chief Guest Mr. Kamal Gupta, Mr. Amol Vaidya and Mr. Ramesh Mudgal. Dignitaries were escorted to the stage by grade 6 students.

Chief Guest Mr. Kamal Gupta, in his speech, emphasised on the fact that GIIS focuses on the holistic development of all the students and everyone will be given opportunities of exercising their leadership skills. He also congratulated the newly appointed school cabinet members for their preparedness to take responsibilities and advised them to strike a balance between their primary responsibility of scholastic achievement and co-scholastic activities.

After distribution of badges, Principal Ramesh Mudgal administrated an oath to our newly elected student council members in front of the whole school to be true to their posts and duties assigned to them.

The Principal thanked the Chief Guest and wished the council members all the best in their endeavours. He reminded them of the fact that ‘with power comes responsibility’. He gave the example of Babur, the founder of Mughal Empire and how he inspired his army to defeat the huge army of Rana Sanga.

During the acceptance speech, Gokul Krishna, Head Boy of Batch 2016, shared his thoughts on behalf of all council members on taking over responsibilities. Head Girl, Aarushi Gupta proposed the ‘Vote of thanks’ to the guests, parents, teachers and everyone who had contributed in making the first investiture ceremony a grand success.

The newly selected Council members and their parents joined the school team for high tea and interaction.
