GIIS Abu Dhabi launched the weeklong event of nurturing innovations on 22nd November 2015.
The launch was marked by a performance of 7 teachers on the stage, who showed the students how a rainbow is formed through a fun experiment "The Rainbow Snake Bubbles" while the kids performed on a rainbow song.
The week long observation had several events in store for students and parents as many more innovative activities, games and experiments were conducted both by the teachers, parents as well as the students such as the @aps@edible craft activity’ and experiments in all classes such as @aps@the magic water@aps@, @aps@the magic balloon’, ‘water defying gravity@aps@, @aps@difference in water@aps@, @aps@artificial volcano’, ‘sink and float’, ‘raining blood’, ‘black pepper trick@aps@ and many more. These simple experiments encouraged the students to think outside the box and gain insights into innovative thinking.
Edible Craft - Creativity with food!
Ever caught a butterfly?....the answer would be “yes”. But ever eaten a butterfly?....the answer would be “oh no”!! But we at GIIS Abu Dhabi just did that. Now don’t worry, we just ate a yummy Butterfly shaped sandwich. Not only that we got to eat a lot more cute animals and other objects crafted from a variety of vegetables, fruits and other goodies by our own little chefs at GIIS.
As a part of the Innovative Week celebrations, on the 23rd of November 2015, GIIS Abu Dhabi conducted ‘Let’s Cook Day’ innovatively with the theme as “Edible Craft”. Parents of KG 1 were invited to participate along with their kids and assist their tiny hands to create the edible crafts. Not only a good number of mothers but a few fathers and little brothers & sisters also turned up to take part in this innovative activity.
The teachers also assisted the students in creating an edible craft common for the whole class. And out came lots of fishes, owls, spiders, peacocks, palm trees, flowers etc....crafted out of sandwiches, bananas, apples, strawberries, kiwis, oranges, grapes, cucumbers, carrots etc...The kids thoroughly enjoyed this activity and surprised us with little modifications on their own to create new things. And what made it enjoyable was that later the children got to eat their craft work. Admist giggles they took a bite of a tail here, a wing there and so on.
We appreciate our parents who kept aside their valuable time to spend with their kid and took part in this novel activity. And in turn they have impressed us with their creative skills, for out came caterpillars, swans, dolphins, chickens, hedgehogs, flower baskets, boats, trees , houses etc....Later they got to savour this edible craft with their child.
Our Principal Mr. Ramesh Mudgal and KG Coordinator Mrs.Geetha Mahendran also interacted with the students and their parents and listened to their innovative edible craft ideas.
Overall the Innovative Edible Craft activity was a great success which was welcomed and enjoyed by both kids and their parents. We at GIIS Abu Dhabi look forward in coming up with many more such ideas to encourage our students to think innovatively.
