Al-Tasamuh, the annual interschool competition

‘We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.’

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates has declared the year 2017 as the ‘Year of Giving’. And, the Holy month of Ramadan makes it all the more encouraging to come forward and help humanity in small ways. Global Indian International School Abu Dhabi believes in teaching its students values, ethics and humility which flowed in the form of art at the school’s successful charity exhibition event ‘Year of Giving – Through Expressions’ that was held on June 17, Saturday. The event witnessed an eye-catching display of paintings done by our students of Grades 1 to 9. These artworks by our students were put up for sale, the proceeds for which were donated to Emirates Red Crescent as part of our commitment to UAE’S declaration of 2017, as the ‘Year of Giving’.

The school corridor on the first floor wore a colourful look as artworks by students attracted everyone’s attention. It was overwhelming to see parents turning up at the event in large numbers! The inauguration of the exhibition-cum-sale was done by Amol Vaidya, Director Operations and Ramesh Mudgal, Principal along with all the co-ordinators, teachers and student council members in the school’s Gallery Hall.

Evangeline Rose and Prathamesh Mittal, members of the student council, escorted the guests for an ‘Art Tour’ starting from the display of paintings in the Yoga Room to those on the first and second floor corridors.

The school had also organised competitions and workshops for parents as a part of Art Exhibition. Gokul Krishna Pandiyan and Ashwath welcomed all the participants and wished them best wishes in the competitions - ‘My Wow! Moments in UAE’ Poster Making.

This was followed by ‘Sculpture Making Competition’ with the theme for which was ‘Everything is Art!’ and this was announced by student council members, Pratyush Mudgal and Nihal Usman.

Another set of parents took part in the Origami and Hanging Light Shade Workshops that were held in the canteen and the Art Room. The event was open to parents for participation in various art activities, who were equally excited!

After mulling over which artwork stands out the best, our judges Ms. Nancy and Ms. Soumya decided on the winning masterpieces. The hall reverberated with the sound of applause as the principal announced the names of the winners!

We thank the teachers, students and parents for helping us create memories for our children that they will carry with them for a lifetime.
